I I was amazed when I saw this..

Virtual Journey to into 100% design tokyo

GO GREEN.....

Maybe one day, perhaps...

Branding

For the branding of the design I decided to use a painting from a famous japanese artist "Hokusai"called "The great wave of kanagawa". This painting resembles the characteristic of japanese art during the Edo period. I think by using this a series of japanese paintings on my chair would promote japanese culture during the event as well as offering a better understanding of traditional japanese art.

Success'

I wanted it to have a clean folded sides, and not showing much of the xanita corrugated parts.

The outer folds initial locking system from the concept 2 mock up doesn't seem to actually work, so i have to change the outer folds to interlock underneath the seat.

It worked, I'm glad I manage to execute the design in time and maintain it's aesthetic appearance from the original concept. Perhaps even better.

Hmmm.... I'm not sure if everyone can fit to sit on it, I hope Shin would as I'm designing for 100% Tokyo ;)

Oh Xanita Pt. 2

As time is running out & I still haven't done a 1 : 1 scale mock up of the newly improved design. I decided to straightaway modeling itup by using Xanita.

Finally, Some Inspiration

CONCEPT REFINE 1
On the last day of consultation I managed to refine my concept into a promising locking system that might actually work. I still keep the side flanges of the chair to keep the characteristic of the design.

After figuring out the concept I realize that there are still enough material to add a higher backrest and also making the design more solid.

CONCEPT REFINE 2
Last but not least, I finally satisfied with the design. It was quite challenging to build a chair that has multiple angular. Especially on the major part as in the seat & side flanges.

Oh... Xanita

Last minute changes, I've wasted too much time trying to get my initial design to work. Now I got no choice but to start from scratch, but working under pressure is never good. Everything doesnt seems to work. Desperately in need of a help now..

I even tried modeling using solidworks, but the end result doesn't seem to look the way I wanted it to be.

Locking System

I've tried dozens of locking system for my chair design but all of them seems to fail. The flaps on each site does not seem to interlock even with multiple jointings and the angles of the chair make it rather difficult to create a strong lock. It seems my chair was a bit to complex for my design capabilities. I should have stick to a more simpler concept......... Time is running out....tic tic tic..
